When will XP as stable, lean, and as good quality as Linux?
When will XP be as little intrusive as Linux?
Maybe never, because the goal is not "to be good".

It's good you took the time to write to us to inform us that Linux is so good. Your questions made sense to me and I am formatting my hard drive as I write, so that I can install Linux. I look forward to its lack of support and over complicated hardware installation as well as its jargon filled support notes. After all it is SOOO stable. I am also booting up my old Commodore 64 because that was stable as well which, according to the Linux philosophy, makes it better. I know you didn't leave your name so that you wouldn't be bombarded with praise, but thanks anyway Anonymous!

I used to be one of those who thought Linux was the answer to everything... But now I realize that's just a bunch of bull. Until Linux is as easy to install and maintain as Windows is, it'll never be a better OS for the desktop.

Anyway, who says Windows is unstable? Sure the old school Windows ontop of DOS weren't all that great, but I've run NT based systems since NT 4, and I haven't had any big problems with stability. Win 2k and XP are VERY stable!

In fact, I bet they're as stable or even more stable than say KDE & Xfree86. I dual-boot Linux here and KDE crashes as much or more often than Win 2k and XP.

And for the average person, 2k / XP is more than enough. Why would any sane person want to run Linux on their desktop?

Linux is wonderful when it comes to running services. I use it for quite a few things around here. Two computers running Linux and another two dual-booting. Thus I'm not anti-linux or anything. Nor am I anti-windows. Both oprating systems have their advantages and disadvantages.

I just wish the Linux zealots would get off their high horse and realize that as far as desktop use goes, Win 2k / XP are as stable as Xfree86 with KDE or Gnome.
