Comment:

I downloaded XP SP3 from Windows Update for my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1100) and during the installation it shows "Access Denied" and when I click OK it then uninstalls everything. I previously installed it on my PC without a problem. Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't installed SP3 yet. It is possible WGA is required (Windows Genuine Advantage).

I also downloaded the SP3 from Windows Update, it installed OK, went back to the Update page and found some updates for SP3. I download them and the computer wants to reboot, and reboot and reboot and reboot.

I went into safe mode and did an uninstall of SP3 but the computer still wants to reboot over and over again, I know how to fix the thing, Just telling everyone BEWARE

In answer to Othehill, yes WGA is required, infact the first thing they want you to download is an update to WGA

There are other sites that you can download SP3 from. If the OP did that, as I also did, the installation of the SP may fail if WGA is not installed and/or verified by MSoft.
