This new service pack 2 update is annoying!! The stupid security center keeps blocking out all kinds of things, like when I need to use dreamweaver, when I want to see flash on a site, etc.. I have disabled it in the settings in my system, I have unchecked all the boxes for the settings it gives me such as firewall, auto updates, virus protection etc. and still it comes back. HOW DO I PERMANENTLY GET RID OF THIS PEICE OF CRAP??? HELP!!!

uninstall the download.

yeah, ok, I could do that, but I would like to have the updates that SP2 provides without all these damn popup messages telling me that they have blocked active x controls on every website I go to. There has got to be a way to do this!!

There is a way.
Use a modern browser like Firefox, Mozilla, or Opera that doesn't have the security flaw known as active X.The alerts you're getting is microsoft subtlely saying "our browser is an old, broken piece of crap".
If you continue to use IE after all the well publicized expert advice NOT to use it, you deserve a little trouble.
Good lord, they even said it on CNN.

buff nasty
I don't have SP2 yet but can you not re-set your Active X preferences in IE Options - Security Tab - Custom ?

It never ceases to amaze me at all the negative comments that i see on the board about the SP2 pack. Yet i will wager a bet, that most of those problems that people encounter, are not cause of SP2, but something that is setup wrong on their machine. I use Dreamweaver, and have SP2 installed, and i'm seeing no problems. That doesn't mean that i am lucky.... just that things on my machine are not conflicting with Dreamweaver. Which brings us to the punch line. If your experiencing problems with SP2 and some program... try looking at what may be the reason for the conflict, instead of saying that SP2 is a piece of crap. That kind of sub-intelligence is not needed on here.

To turn off Security Center alerts
1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Security Center.
3. In the Security Center, under Resources, click Change the way Security Center alerts me.
4. In the Alert Settings dialog box, clear the Firewall, Automatic Updates, or Virus Protection check boxes, and then click OK.
When you use this procedure, the Security Center still displays your status, but does not send you alerts.

I just tried this myself and stopped the alerts as advertized. Not sure why you can't.

I would have to agree with JohnFL and SuperSaiyan. I have SP2 installed and I have not experienced one conflict. I have quite a variety of software programs installed and all of them run just fine. Am I just "lucky"? I use Internet Explorer with ease and with my settings--no annoying pop-ups or alerts.

After installing windows xp sp2 I'm unable to run .vbd (visualbasic userdocument) files. It keeps showing 'open or save' dialog every time I try to run it. How do I get rid of this dialog and just run it like it used to be?
ganesh

I would start a new thread message on this one, since this thread is old and may not be viewed that much any more. Start with a brand new subject topic and post it so that it goes to the top of the list. I can't help you on this one other than to uninstall SP2 or go to system restore.
