Do anyone know where can i download the SP1 express for win XP pro so that i can store it in the PC but not directly taken from the net and install?

The Express installs only what you need. For example, if you have all of the latest updates installed, the express process is very short. If you don't it is quite long. Therefore there is no way to download an Express install that will work for all systems and it is not available for general download.

Not possible with the express install. That's what the network install is for. It's kinda big but if you burn it to cd you won't have to download it again.

Sandman, Is it possible to burn sp1 to a cdr? If so, can you do it once it is downloaded or must you burn while downloading from windows update? More info please.

You do not want the express SP1 setup. You want the Network Installation.
Service Pack 1 for Windows XP Professional and Home Edition - Network Installation: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/sp1lang.asp
Once on the page select your language on the right and then GO, to get to the Network Installation download.

If you download the network install you will end up with one file. It will not be installed until you run it. So you can download it and then burn it to cdr like any other file.
The best thing to do is to slipstream Xp and sp1 so there both installed at the same time. Doing it this way is the most reliable and efficient way to install sp1.
Personally I would download and install sp1 then burn a slipstreamed copy for the next time you have to reinstall Xp.
For info on slipstreaming check out this site

I forgot to mention the network install is 133 megs. So you might want to get a download manager and download it while your sleeping.
I recommend Getright from www.getright.com for a good download manager.
Sandman

I agree 100% with Sandman, including GetRight. I have it & it works well.
More info on creating a slipstreamed CD can be found here. It gives instructions for using either Nero or Roxio Easy CD Creator.

Okay...thought about it.
Why pay Microsoft for the SP1 CD when they make it available for download and you can just burn it to CD-R yourself?
Even on dial-up, it's only a 7 hour download.

Get Right is good, but it is spyware, unless you purchase it and trial ware can be a mess, installing -uninstalling, If you want to buy one I would buy GetRight, but free one get one of the above freebe.

You're paying for the CD not the update. In Australia it is the same... you pay for the CD (which includes whatever it takes to amke it... labour , material etc.) Struth you can't expect everything for free!

I got it here (UK) for no charge at all - not even Postage! - filled in a Form at the Microsoft(UK) Site - came in 10 days
