XP Sound Blaster Live! Problem

I have a sound blaster live! value card, and just installed XP. For some reason my sound has to be turned almost all the way down (in volume control panel) for my sound to be bearable. If I turn it up any higher its deafening. I have the latest drivers from sblive.com, and I am not sure how to correct my problem. Any help is much appreciated.
