HELP! I am having trouble with my PC:
I just did a fresh reinstall of Windows XP Pro, and updated drivers and all Windows updates. Now my problem is this:

Over a bit of time (ie: 1-2 hours), the computer will run progressively slower and slower. Even webbrowsing on this relatively powerful machine becomes a difficult task! I do not understand why this is happening, since I have only reinstalled in the last 24 hours and do not have many programs on here. When I restart/reboot the machine, it returns to its normal speed, but give it some time and then it happens again!
I have not noticed any abnormal tasks running, and so far have not detected any Trojans. I am almost thinking that it could be a memory leak since I had to replace my power supply the other day because it calved on me.
BTW: Its XP Pro, all updated, with SP1 and all that jazz...thx

When idle, there are usually only about 20 processes or less running, which do not take up very much memory. However, the longer the computer sits; the CPU usage will be bad. For instance, after a fresh reboot the cpu usage at idle is like 1-5%... after a few hours, it is constantly 90-100% usage - even when doing nothing! What is going on here?
thx

u should check if explorer.exe is cousing this.(run task manager)
do u have other partitions on your disk?
i think a bad or corrupt file is cousing this.(in one of your partitions) for example a file you've downloaded but couldn't open.a .avi file maybe? anyway your drive c is not the problem since you've done a clean install.
it's the other partition i'm thinking of.(if u have any)
if it's a bad file delete it .u might have problems deleting it under windows if so start your computer with ms dos and delete the file.
