XP Shared Drives slow to respond

Having a lot of problems with some XP computers and file sharing/mapping over a network. When the PC's fire up I can't access the network for several minutes. I get the error message about "Couldn't connect to all network drives". Maped drives can also disconnect randomly then reconnect. Its a TCP network, have tried fixed ip's, tried enabling Netbios over TCP, just about everything I can think of wont fix the problem. I even shared a directory on my own PC, and maped it over the network to myself, but still get a message "Cant connect to netowrk drive". Standard TCP traffic ( our intranet system ) works fine!

Are the computers turned on that you mapped, is the mapping loacal or is it done via a server?

Yes the computers with the shared drives are turned on, local mapping. I've just been looking around the other posts on this forum and this WinXP drive mapping networking seams to be a very common problem! Seen lots of people with the same problem as myself and no real answers yet. Microsoft must be aware of this and have a solution soomewhere.

Yeah, Mapping isnt really a good idea the best way to acomplish this task is to use network share drives on your server

Fixed it, I took the advice from another posted message somewhere here in the forums, a message from "Analyst". He said install netbeui from the WinXP cd, and it worked! The network now responds and behaves as it should. Thanks go to Analyst.
