the short version-
everytime i try to install win xp, i get the message "setup is starting windows" and it just hangs.the long version-
right, "deap breath"
i upgraded my pc bout a month ago, the specs were:
PIII 700
Microstar M/B
gforce2mx400(64mb)
256mb rami ran win xp on it and it all worked fine.
then i upgraded my pc, i bought an IWILL KK266plus-r motherboard and a 1.4ghz athlonnow when i try to install XP i get the above error, ive tried taking all my cards out and ive tried a few versions of xp(pro version, beta version, home version), ive also tried turning everything off in the bios (including raid and on-board sound)
i am simply at a loss, i really loved xp while it was on my old p3 700, and now im back to win2k again (a good O/S but no where near as good as XP)
if anyone can help id really appreciate it,
thanks in advance,
Neil Carr

I got a IWILL KK266-R motherboard and a GeForce3. I ran into the same problem. After a lot of searching, i installed a old TNT2 graphics card. It stopped at the same place for about 20 seconds before it continued the setup. When I finished installing XP, I reinstalled the GF3, and its been working fine since then.
A friend of mine ran into the same problem with a GF2MX-400. Same prob here. He installed a old GeForce 1 (DDR) and it worked fine.
You might also want to install smartdrv.exe if youre installing from dos. It solves a "hang" problem on some machines, and it makes the install process go faster on all machines. smartdrv.exe can be found in windows 98. Good luck!

Yes it is your geforce 2 card, I had the same problem, stick any old card in and after your install completes then install the geforce

Indeed it's a problem with the Geforce2, i solved it by replacing the card during installation. Give it a try, it works!
