In the cdrom, change to the i386 directory. Then type winnt and press enter.

Yes you can install XP from dos.
1-You have to boot with floppy with cdrom support.
2-you have to use Smartdrv.exe (comes with Dos 6.22). you need smartdrv for fast dos copy
3-type x:\i386\winnt
where x: is your driver letter for Cdrom

Hi, I also downloaded the BF1942 demo from the internet and it installed just fine. When i got to play the game, the scenery wouldn't appear, all that I could see was some mountains in blue and the ocean in gray.
My system is a Pentium IV 1.7 GHz 256Mb and TNT2 Riva 32 Mb, I have already downloaded the Detonator 40. It didn't work either!!

Shame!!, because this is the best game I´ve ever played!!

When you say to type 3-type x:\i386\winnt do i actually have to type "3-type" ? How do i turn on smartdrive.exe? I have been trying for ages, every fresh install i have to install ME then overwrite with XP while in windows, cause it doesn`t seem to ever finish copying files without smartdrive on.

SMARTDRV.EXE not SMARTDRIVE.EX

You'll find this on the XP CD, copy it to your startup floppy disk.

You then have to reboot with floppy [with cdrom support].

at DOS prompt you should complete the line to read:
a:> smartdrv.exe
then press the ENTER key

smartdrv should run
at DOS prompt you should complete the line to read:
a:> cd d:
[where d is the drive letter for CD, change this to reflect your actual CD drive letter if it's different]
then press the ENTER key

at DOS prompt you should complete the line to read:
d:> cd i386\
then press the ENTER key

at DOS prompt you should complete the line to read:
d:i386> winnt.exe
then press the ENTER key
