Right, i have three XP setup disks, and two partitions, I have tried installing xp with all three xp CDs and on both partitions but i keep getting this error:

SXS.DLL: Synax error in manifest or policy file "F:\I386\asms\10\MSFT\\WINDOWS\GIDPLUS.MAN" on line 4***
Installation Failed: F:\I386\asms. Error Messge : Incorrect function

One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installedIncorrect Function

The signature for Windows XP Professional Setup is invalid. The error code is 80096001

I have used all three of the CDs before with no problems...

Assumming you have a legitiamte copy of WinXP sp2 then a couple of things to note. First, is this a home slipstreamed CD? Is the time and date correct in the BIOS. If installing to a SATA drive are you providing SATA drivers when requested. Run Memtest86 from a boot floppy or CD. Look at the link below.

Could also be a hardware issue with the cdrom drive itself if the software is legit but I've never known Xp to be on more then 1 cd. Are you directly booting the cd to install or using floppy disks as your post refers to 3 disks? Which partition are you installing to and how large is it? Take a look at the setupact.log and setupapi.log in the \windows folder for possible causes like device driver issues.Other things to try are running chkdsk on the hard drive, ensuring all hardware is XP compatible and minimum Xp requirements are met.
