I am trying to make a copy of my XP disk because it is really scratched up, but still works and I want to be sure to have a backup. Well I copied it, but I went to test it and see if I could boot from it to reinstall if my computer ever crashed, and it doesn't boot. Is there a special command or file that Iam missing that will make it boot on startup?

Well, did you make an exact copy of the xp cd? normally there is no special command or file that will make it boot on startup.

just coping the disk will not write the boot sector to the copy disk, you need to clone the cd,you will need to get a program like clone cd

What version is your CD? You may be better off to create a slipstreamed instal CD that has SP2 already inbuilt. There are any number of guides to slipstreaming that include instructions on making the end result CD bootable. Google a bit and you'll find them
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Evidently my one or more of my startup files were corrupt, or something, so I used a boot disk to start it up. The old boot disk i tried was from windows 2000 pro, that is why it didnt work. I also successfully made a boot disk that I slip streamed with sp2
