XP set up problems

I posted on this forum several weeks ago with various problems with my desktop. Pretty much i decided the solution was a new motherboard. So i just got it today and I put it in.... and i F-disked... and formatted and popped in the XP Pro CD rom.... and it boots from the cd rom... then said "inspecting your computer's hardware configuration"... then nothing. Black screen... nothing. The FIRST time i did it... it gave me the pale blue windows configuration screen and then froze there. Any guesses??? The harddrive was just replaced last fall when it went bad. The motherboard is brand new. The ram is the only thing that is older, but i can't imagine that it would cause this problem. One thing i have noticed is that it seems to flash on the screen during set up that its clocking my CPU at 600mhz... which is very wrong... i'm running a 400 mhz celeron. I have the CPU ration on the board set to x4.0 and the CPU frequency set to 100mhz. Could that be a problem??

Boot to a floppy and run scandisk from a floppy to make sure your hard disk isOK.

You might want to post on some of the other forums too, Windows 9x and Me, and CPUs/Overclocking. The contributors there have had a little more experience building their own computers.

Angie...i might be teaching you to suck eggs here but i think your problem may be the graphics card, try sticking in an older PCI card and then installing XP. I had the same prob and this cured it all...good luck

Nothing to feel dumb about. Most of us wouldn't know where to start when replacing the motherboard.
