i have been posting for help without getting any result. I have tried to upgrad everything i can and also tried uninstall and reinstall and repair XP...etc. It just wouldn't recognize the plextor 16/10/40A CDRW. couldn't burn anything. can someone help?

XP burning software does not work when Easy CD creator is installed so uninstall cd creator and try burning with the XP burning software to see if problem is with drive. Also check roxio.com and see if your drive is listed under their compatability list. You also have to patch EZC 5.02 to xp before it will work right.

Also I looked up your cd recorder at roxio and it says only works with EZC 5.0 so you might be getting a problem there...

It's true, Roxio's Easy CD Creator will only work with Windows XP if it's the vertion 5.0 Platinum Edition (if you're going retail) or 5.0 basic (with update patch from Plextor/Roxio). But do NOT under any circumstances install DirectCD. Do a custom install and take that off the load list as it conflicts with XP's media player and havoc follows. Hope this helps!

did you windows update yet?
what about uninstall the cdrw drive in the device manager, then power off, disconnect the power cable to it, then bootup into XP once, then reverse all these steps?i had to do this once and it picked up correctly.

Joe has a good idea, and maybe uninstall Easy CD Creator too and see if you can burn with XP's built in software before you try Easy CD again, or maybe download Nero for a trial first.

I have installed EZ-CD Creator 5 Platnium, what you must do is a custom install and DO NOT install "TAKE TWO", if you go on the Roxio site and get the "XP-UP" upgrade for windows xp, the instructions will tell you this.
Mine works good except when I make an audio Cd, track #1 will be "hash" hissing, no music, and because of this when Cd is placed in computer it will not auto play.
This only happens on track one, all the other tracks are ok, don't know why, I have this problem posted on another forum, but so far I have not had any answers.

Hi! You have to go to Plextor.com and upgrade your firmware for your Plextor for the 16/10/40. After you do that it should work with the EZCD Creator 5.0. Give it a try, it worked for me, I have the same burner.Good Luck!

Hi,
Why does everyone except Sly assume that Shinjan 22 is using Roxio's software. He did not mention a thing about it! It's usefull to read the original message before posting a reply...

I had the same problem (plextor) when I did the upgrade and tried everything you tried, latest drivers and so on. I wasn't using any 3rd party software. XP would not recognize my drive as a writer. I stopped messing around and did a clean install of XP and it worked fine after that. The upgrade is troublesome, as most have said, do a clean install if at all possible.

Magda, his original message is farther down the page, in fact there are several. Maybe you should read them all.

My Plexwriter 12/10/32A is not recognised by the XP upgrade of Windows 98! Its an absolute nightmare.Using Excell my finles cannot be copied to the CDRW as it says they are READ ONLY...regardless of removing ticks in boxes etc!!
I hope Plextor or Microsoft come up with a driver that works, otherwise the XP update or the CDRW go in the bin! Help!

Excuse me magda!.....Sly assumes he used Roxio's software because Plextor Burners comes with that software and drivers for it, and I assume he wouldn't run out and get Nero or anything else before trying the software and drivers that come with Plextor.
