A few days ago I tried to access my second hard drive (D:) and this message came up:
"The disk in drive D is not formatted.
Do you want to format it now?"It has worked perfectly ever since I installed XP, up until now. It has all my important stuff on. I tried rebooting in DOS using a boot disk, and it recognised the D drive and was able to list the files on it and access these files. So DOS recognises the drive, and XP is lying. The HD is perfectly formatted as a FAT32 4GB drive and the data is intact. It does NOT need formatting.
I have gone to the drive properties in XP and it says the file type is RAW. I tried chkdsk, scandisk, virus checker and a couple of utilities but none work. Does anyone know how I could get Windows to access the drive again?
Thanks!!
Matt.

Like WHOA that is a hard one to answer!!
THERE MAY BE ONE SOLUTION!
Uninstalling windows XP (if upgraded from windows 95/98/mE) might workWhen Windows XP is unistalled and have your previouse operating system running, then go to MY COMPUTER then go to drive D and open it. iF its still doesnt work----Your out of luck!
IF it works copy files and folders on to drive C: then you can go back to XP (if you want it Back) and reformat drive D:\ and put the files back where they were

You didn't happen to be running VirtualDrive by farstone, did you? I searched the whole web for this exact problem (xcpt my D drive is a CD rom) and came up with only this site as a result. I am almost positive Virtual Drive did it to *me*. Please let me know.
