XP restarts instead of shutting down

Every time I try to shut down my computer, XP does a full restart instead, and boots back into the login screen.
Hiberantion works still, but is there any way of properly shutting down the PC???
Also, since installing Mcafee Virus Checker (v.4.5.1), my system is running excessively slowly. Are there any known compatability issues between Mcafee and XP?

if you are running easy cd creator 5 got to web site and update it will fix restarting problem

I had very much the same problem, but was running Win ME along with XP, with dual boot. I finaly formatet the HDD and now only running XP, and no problems with the termination of XP. Good luck !

Check the power management under BIOS. Switch it off as it will cause this problem when trying to shut down the computer.

When I installed Windows XP I had the same problem after I installed Roxio Easy CD creator, your have to go to Roxio's web site and download their current drivers. Zip Magic also caused me the same problem ( unable to shutdown computer)

Here how to solve: right click my computer, property, under Advance tap, click on Setting under Start up and recovery, uncheck automatic restart under system failure.
