Good Evening everyone,
I recently installed SP2 on my new machine. It works great, but now when I put the XP Pro cd in to do a repair, it says the version on the cd is older than the one I currently have and it aborts. How can I bypass this message. Can I add something to the CD??? Thanx in advance.

You have to bypass the first screen with the option to press 'R' to repair. Proceed to install windows as normal and do the repair when it detects windows as having been already installed. It will give you that option. Keep in mind that doing a repair will bring windows back to a pre-SP2 state and all subsequent updates will also be wiped.

Curious as to why you would you want to do a repair on a "it works great" pc?
Might want to consider slipstreaming xp.

Hey Happycrappy and Wanderer,
To Happy / I can't get to the screen where it says press R to repair. When I click install XP it kicks me off right there.
To Wanderer / I was having a problem with a few things after I set up the machine. Problem was fixed after I installed the correct monitor (flat panel) drivers. Thanx for the link, I'm gonna check it out. My XP cd is worthless right now.

You need to slipstream SP2 to a cd. It won't let you overlay the SP2 with the basic xp. http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=204781

If Per is right in what he's assuming, then I misunderstood the question. Is he BOOTING from the XP CD or trying to do a repair from within windows? What I said was based on booting from the CD. If you're trying to do it from within windows then per is right.

Hey Grasshopper..it occured to me...
Are you starting the XP cd from xP? Then you will get the error and abort. boot the xp cd via the bios.

Hey guys, Thanx for the replies. Yes, I was trying to boot the CD from within windows. I'll give a BIOS boot a try. Thanx again.
