Xp reinstallation

During trying to reformat and reinstall XP professional the computer starts beeping (constantly) and the screen turns black. (I can restart holding the start knob for 5 sec.)

1. unplugg power cord
2. take out the ram and put it back
3. reset cmos battery
4. plug the power cord
5. reset cmos settings to default (using cmos settings utilty)

Also check (with no mains power connected to system at all) all power supply connections to the motherboard

And to re-iterate as per "dark...." remove mains power into system completely (as in remove the mains-lead...) when going thru "his" check list...
