Ok, here's the situation:
One day I tried to log off my user but during the logoff process it froze. I force-shutdown the computer and then turn it on but now after the BISO check are completed, nothing happens. There is just a command promt cursor flashing in the top-left corner. Origionally, it would load the boot menu asking me to choose XP or 2000.

Here are the specs and other info if you need them:
CPU: P4 @ 3.00GHz
HD: Western Digital 40GB
RAM: 512 MB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
Sound: Creative SB Audigy2
OS: Windows XP, Windows 2000. Both are on the same partition under different folders. They are managed by the XP bootloader. If you need any more info I can provide it.

First thing I would do is boot from an OS (XP/2000) disk and run a check disk from the repair console with the /r switch turned on: 'chkdsk /r'. Next, while in the console, make sure that your boot.ini file is present and ok. If not, you can copy the file from another machine (or email me and I will send you one that you can use). The boot.ini file is on the root DIR
It only hurts until your dead

First I tried what you said. I ran chkdsk with /r and then checked to see if boot.ini is there. It is there.
Second I tried the "fixboot" command. Didn't help.
Next I tried installing another fersion of Windows 2000. After setup copied the install files on to the HD it restarted but wouldn't continue installation.
I'm starting to get a little suspiceous about the hard drive. Any other help you can provide would be helpful.
