Try washing the cd with warm water and a mild soap.

There are over 6,000 files in Windows XP installation. Which 38 are you interested in.

How are you going to do an installation with just 38 of the 6,000 files required. You will not get prompted to change disks. Windows expects everything to be on the same disk.

There is a way round it, but is complex and requires you to create a bootable Windows CD which requires a working computer to do it with.

If your CD is scratched try cleaning it. Soap and water can be very effective.
