Hi

Try launch Help and Support Center. Search for "compatibility wizard". The first topic might help you out.

If you make a link for a program you want to run, you can go into the properties of the link and change how it should be run. For example, you can choose to run it in MS-DOS mode, Windows 95 mode, blah blah blah. You can also have it run in 256 color mode if 32-bit is too much.

That's right Steve but...it'll only work if you are able to install it within Win XP.

If Win XP doesn't allow you to install the program due to the fact that it's a 16 bit program then you'll have to run the setup using the program "Compatibility Wizard"...

That's true. I guess I didn't know if Rebbekkah meant that it had to be installed as opposed to a program that can just run from the command line. "Load" is kind of ambiguous.

Are you installing a hardware dependant program or are you installing a pure software based program?

If it's a hardware program then the hardware might not be supported by Win XP yet.

E.g. the HP Deskjet 1220c printer driver will not install due to the fact that it is not Win XP compatible. Maybe your case is similar.

I've had the same problem. My kids have been using the simulation game "Pharaoh" on our old computer (Windows95 OS). We recently bought a new computer running WindowsXP. When we tried to install the game on the new computer, it came back with a "Can't run 16-bit windows program". I tried every possible permutation/combination that the windows compatibility wizard had to offer, but none of them worked. It won't let me install the software. I did a Microsoft Database search and found out that the new memory model is different with XP...something to do with the virtual memory. There was something about a maximum memory setting in the system.ini file that would possibly help. Alas, I didn't save the link or print the page, and now I can't find it!! If anyone figures this out, please let me know.

Thanks,
Bruce
