My Setup:

I have 3 NT4.0 servers, all have the same build number and service packs.

I have an XP Pro machine that is running on the new Active Directory side. (we're migrating)

My new XP Pro computers can map drives and browse 2 of the NT servers just fine. One of the NT servers it can't map or browse. I can see it in the entire network, but when i try to connect, it says I don't have rights. I've tried adding the XP computer to the NT domain side as well and no luck!

I have the access rights set up the same on all 3 NT servers. I am logging in as Administrator with all rights and my trust between the 2 domains is in tact and working.

For some weird reason my new XP Pro machines won't connect to this one NT server? Is there some weird security setting on this one NT machine that i'm missing? It's just with XP and this one NT server?

Any ideas?

stupid thoughts: make sure you don't have duplicate names and that you're licensing is configured.

On the machione to which you cannot connect, look in the network connection properties and make sure that the IPX/SPX/NetBIOS protocols are enabled.
There is also a service called something like "Computer Browser" that can cause a problem like this...

ipx/spx is for novell network compatibilty for versions of novell before it went native IP v5 I believe. NetBios is the pre- Active Directory way of non-routable networking. TcpIp is the preferred default unless you're doing something that doesn't understand tcpip or you want the added security of protocol switching. If he's using Active Directory, then He's (in my understanding) using a DNS based naming scheme. No need for any protocols other than tcpip.

Adding all the protocols might work accidentally, but it will affect performance due to additional non-data administrative traffic such as beacons and hellos and name table updates and browser elections.

Trusts.

Does your domain controller trust all of your NT4 machines? Does your NT4 machine trust your domain controller?

I have a trust set between my NT PDC and my new AD PDC. It is working great so far! All software works perfectly no matter what domain you are on. We will be off the NT domain and migrated completely to the new AD domain in about a week.

I can connect to this specific NT server with 98se, me, 2000 pro, 2000 server, and 2003 server, but not XP pro??

It has to be something on this NT server since my XP pro machines can see everything else on the network right?

Since we're migrating to AD and this server will no longer be on the network, it's not a big issue. But it's driving me nuts that I can't figure it out!!
