Comment:

I purchased a laptop from EBay that came with XP Pro, but no discs. I went to MS to download SP2, and it said that my product key? was invalid. Since then, my laptop has been unusable. XP comes up as usual, then the screen just goes blank, no cursor, nothing. Did MS send something over to destroy my computer or just coincidence? Also if I were to buy XP from EBay, how can I be sure of getting a valid system? I have a Win 98 CD, could I install that on this computer? Thanks for any help.

Could be eather or !!!

Not the first time I heard of this happening.

The fact that you received no disk could mean the os was something other than genuine, but that is an assumption only.

Best you get in contact with the trader who sold you the laptop.

Good luck

Interesting! Have a look at this thread. Might be coincidence but there may be something in it.

You cant - you are entirely in the hands of the seller. If they are selling XP at price considerably less than you pay at a reputable company then there is a very good chance you are getting something iffy.

So whats that got to do with anything.

Palladium is a technology that has not yet been implemented and probably never will.

The link you gave semi implies about a MS conspiracy,so does Palladium. That's what it has to do with it.I will tell you something else whether or not you want to believe something like this will be implemented is up to you but it will be.Palladium may not be the name of the technology but it will certainly be the game and its not a its not a matter of if its a matter of when.Like I stated above it's not about security its about control because in an info age he who controls the flow of info has the control.

Everything I have read about Palladium requires legislation to make it work.

As US legislation only applies to the US, there is the rest of the World to consider.

I don't think the rest of the World is going to stand by and let the US control the flow of information. They have tried before and failed.

Paladium is actualy termed the "Fritz Chip" after the senator Fritz Hollings who is also the punk responsable for the "Trusted Computing Platform Alliance" or TCPA, is a hardware and software based system for preventing computers from doing many of the things they are now capable of. Microsoft, AMD, Intel and many other companies say they are now working very hard to integrate TCPA features into hardware and software, including future versions of Windows.
**** stated back in 2002. Look where it has gotten to now with the copyright lawsuits and everything else that was deemed against the copying of material.
Also it has gone further than that with the reporting of HP installing a secreted file into their computers that are supposedly reporting back to the FBI. This sub file is located in the root folders section somewhere.
:-P I have yet been able to find any as of yet but have not the oportunity to work on a later model HP computer.

Yea well a few years back who would have thought the RIAA would be doing what they do now.And I know what you will say if you deal in stuff like that you get what you deserve and I will have to agree with you,but this is an example of how I see a technology like Palladium being used not by a single organization but multilaterally by many organizations.Never the less it is still a dangerous game to allow the flow of info to be contolled like this.

My paranoid brainways have been way ahead of you. The conspiracy to control any media has already been in movement since the laws changed so that banks and insurance companies could be owned by the same conglomerent. Thus allowing the sharing of information solely based on how much money they can make off any given individual. The rules are changed dailly to allow banks and credit card companies to inact usery interest rates just so they can keep the masses under control.
The number one reason for bankruptcies in america is because of high medical bills due because insurance agencies refuse to pay bills on time allowing the banks and credit card companies to run default(high) interest rates because the bill was not payed on time.
This in turn creates a run away payment hike on the masses.
All news is already controlled by just a few companies and is so tainted that you can't believe anything that you hear see or read.
Including blogs like this
