xp pro settings changed by new temp xp profile

November 30, 2012 at 23:06:26
Specs: Windows XP PRO

Hello,
i am an italian guy living in Venice.
When i load my windows xp pro it happens my xp profile does not appear because a new temp profile appears on the desktop and also my original xp profile ICONS and PROGRAMS does not appear on desktop because other temp account ICONS appear instead of him.

There is no other user in CONTROL PANEL - USERS because there is only my original xp user there but in C /DOCUMENTSANDSETTINGS/USER there are one more temp user that is impossible to be deleted because it is an undeletable user profile system.

But in COMPUTER MANAGEMENT there is no user in USERS AND LOCAL GROUPS section as shown here:

So now i need that my windows xp pro loads with my original profile icons and programs and interface.
How can i do that ?
Bye.

Turn off your anti virus and run the combo fix utility, then we can run other utilities after it, if it resolves the problem.

I you look under windows explorer, under the user accounts does it show where a dupicate has been created, perhaps the same user name with a "." in it. I am wondering if your profile is corrupt (and logging you in with a temporary profile) or whether you have a virus that is logging you in under a newly created user. Right click start button to get explorer.

PS do not look in control panel. Use explore and look through the users file structure.

Sometimes the the administrator or user account has had a dot added to the name so that the new profile loads.

Did Combo Fix find anything?

You don't have to pay for an antivirus. For example there is "Microsoft Security Essentials" or "Avast free version".

If you don't know where to find Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool (see #4) then just type MRT.exe in the run box. This is only any good if you keep it updated and is no substitute for an antivirus.

MalwareBytes freebie can unearth some of the more difficult viruses, so install update and run that too. You can get it here:

Maybe your issue is not down to a virus but as you have not been using an AV then that is the first thing to check for.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
