Repost so Subject line is meaningful ;)
Can anyone assist please? Upgraded from W98 to XP Pro, all devices in W98 were working ok. XP upgrade went ok except that now sound is distorted - sounds "scratchy", kinda hi-pitched. All devices ok in Device manager, no conflicts. Abit KT7A, Tbird 1.3, 256Mb, SB PCI64 sound etc. MS Knowledgebase no help. Reboots no help, problem is consistent. No XP driver update on Creative website either. Thanx for any assist...

Same problem here with a PCI SB Live! Value.

Guys - 1 solution. Wait for the new Creative drivers. I am so disappointed with companies so late in releasing drivers updates.

Two solutions to this problem...

1. whatever program you are using, have it run in either Win98/WinME mode.

2. load W2K Creative drivers. XP has good compatability with 2K drivers.

Just something to try. I was a Beta tester for XP.

I had very scrachy distorted sound from XP pro, so i had a look in my bios, for some reason the AGP apature size had gotten re-set to 64 meg, so i set it gack to 128 meg ( as i normaly have it) and the scrachy sound problem went away !!

I have 1 gig of ram and a Nvidia Geforce 2 GTS card.

Hope this helps....

I had same problem with Soundmax drivers. I let XP search for new drivers..it found Intel Generic drivers...and now it seems to be fine.

I have the same prob with a Hercules Game Theater.
They are releasing the XP drivers on 26th October.
Supposedly Microsoft wouldn't allow XP drivers to be released until after the OS was officially on sale.

Install your current SB Drivers...Obtain the SB live Value updated XP driver that is floating around...then simply take the "devldr32.exe" from it...then copy it to your "system32" diretory in the windows folder. All sound blaster live versions should now be fixed!!!

Enjoy

Thanks for the feedback.... re suggestion to run "whatever program your using in Win98/ME mode.." ... the problem is sounds in XP itself AND therefore any apps.

Re CB Live Value drivers... where can I get these please as nothing on Creative web site: http://www.creative.com/support/files/download.asp?reg=0&OS=XP&prod=livevalue&select=Get+Files

Thanx..

This is for motherboard Abit KT7a and KT7a RAID. This problem is reported with BIOS versions ZT and 3C and can be cured by enabling "PCI master read caching" in the BIOS. Additionally it may be necessary to set the "K7 CLK_CTL" to "optimal". Enabling Delay Transaction may also help. Disabling V-sync on your graphics card can resolve crackling with 3D games. Use version 2.0.0925 of Highpoint drivers. Note if you experience problems with the mouse wheel or joystick buttons not working when the PCI128 is installed, disabling the Soundblaster legacy device in Device Manager can help.
