In my network connections there are 2 choices, internet gateway and lan or hi speed. The problem is, I can connect to the internet when the internet gateway is enabled, but I cant when it is disabled, but it disables itself automatically sometimes, i will be on and then it goes dead. i talked to my cable people and they said it should run through my lan or hispeed option, which is always enabled. Does anyone have any advice or help???
also i use a linksys router. this all worked fine on Win ME.

Try disabling Universal Plug and Play and the related SSDP discovery service. These are detecting your Linksys router and installing the Gateway which you don't need.

I have the same setup you do and I'm running fine. If you don't already know how to disable servies right click my computer, manage, services and applications, scroll to each service, right click, disble under startup type.
