Comment:

I'm trying to install XP Pro on my system, & it's giving me problems...

system specs are:

Athlon XP 1800
Elite K7S6A mobo (SiS 745)
256MB DDR (all above @ 266Mhz)
GeForce 4 MX440
Hercules MuseXL s/c
40GB HD
54X CDROM

Anyway, it gets to the windows based part of installing (39 minutes left) every time, after that it sometimes bluescreens me, with "IRQL_EQUAL_OR_LESS_THAN", being displayed. It also mentions restarting & trying again. Quite often it gets past this stage, to where it's finding h/w. A lot of (all seemingly mobo related) parts come up as not being Windows certified, but it lets me carry on. Soon after this it always seems to hang tho...

Oh yeah, Windoze ME installs, but hangs whenever I try & play anything D3D/OpenGL. That's with updated drivers.

Few things I'm thinking. Third party drivers for mobo when it asks about SCSI/RAID drivers? Get XP Home (if it's less picky)? Get a decent brand mobo?? :o/

help!?!

Have you tinkered much in the bios? Have you tried setting that to factory defaults? This sounds like a bios issue to me. Let me know.

Hi Steev...

this article may help, try this link
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=311564

From what you said its sounds like a hardware issue, but if you have anymore details of the stop error screen i may be able to help pin point the problem.

Usually on the stop error screens it may mention a device or files... as much info from this error screen would help...
hope this helps

Regards

Cheers for the help. The article suggests BIOS issues too... Going to try the article's suggestions - s/c out & try again, if not flash the BIOS.

Used to do tech support for 98 & ME, but this is waaaaay over my head...

Had this problem too. Spent days trying to get xp pro installed. Get a new motherboard. I had the same one and even though it is supposed to be xp compatible it wouldn't load it completely. Got a different brand of motherboard and xp pro loaded in 20 minutes, no problems.
