XP Pro install

I recently had to install XP Pro because ME was unable to operate and had XP available. My problem is the install went perfect and all files are still there but I am unable to get online or basically use the old programs. On the add/remove programs option nothing is showing as installed under XP. Should I delete all known files and folders and reinstall or will I have more problems?

It sounds like XP installed a 2nd operating system instead of updating your old one. This caused XP to create a whole new registry instead of keeping the info from the WinME one, that had all those program paths and info. If you choose the wrong options during the WinXP install this can happen.
Probably the simplest fix is to NOT delete anything, but simply reinstall all the programs into exactly the same spot they currently exist in.
The most complex and arguably cleaner option would be to format the drive and start from a clean WinXP install.

I agree with the previous follow up, I had ME and had a similar problem, back up the files (on to cd) you need to keep, re-format and do a clean install, always better than up-grading
