i've tried with a clean boot and i've tried to upgrade with ME on but without sucess.
Everything goes well. Then the computer must reboot, to continue with the rest of the installation.
I am having all sorts of problems installing XP on my computer. I have reformatted my HD. Everything starts out ok, all the start up files are copied etc. The problems arise after the 1st reboot. The loading XP message appears, and the first task bar scoots across fine. But after the XP logo fades,
i get an error window saying:
Fatal error- one one of the components windows need to continue setup could not be installed. data error (cyclic redundacy check). then the option to uninstall xp...What is this anyone?
i did upgrade advisory checker which showed error free system.

I am running an duron 800, NVIDIA GeFOrce2, 256 MB Ram, GA-7ZM, Pioneer DVD ROM. Can anyone point me in the right direction ?..a step by step solution?....thanx..

CRC error... ok do a scandisk and check the hard drive for bad sectors.... so do a full scan will take like 1 hour... and if the drive has probs... u can download program that writes 10101011 into the bad sections and this usually fixes the problems... but if the drive is under warrenty get it replaced!!! but this could be CRC error off the city!! if that is the case then the cd is BROKEN! did u burn it yourself??? or is yours a legal copy? if its a legal copy call microsofty and get yourself a new coy for free!!!

another thing to try is to load the fail safe defaults in the CMOS until it boots the first time. After the first boot you can change the CMOS settings back to normal (boot order, cpu speed...etc.).

this worked with my MSI K7 Master motherboard with the AMD761 chipset. I found the solution on the MSI message boards so it was a real problem.

Hi,

I also have the same problem when I install XP Pro. The message is saying "Fatal error- one one of the components windows need to continue setup could not be installed. The parameter is incorrect. "

I think the controls.man file is corrupted. Could someone please email to me the working controls.man file?

Thanks....
