Comment:

I have two computers networked with XP Pro. The Host is an athlon XP 2000 and the client is a PIII 900MHz. The host computer has two ethernet cards, one going to the DSL modem and the other is connected via a crossover cable to the clients ethernet card. The network is fine except the issue of the client comp not being able to access email, and other security ridden sites. Is there a fix for this problem? Or do I have to go back to cable? :( Both computers run a lot faster on the DSL and I would hate to have to go back too sharing bandwith again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had issues when connecting as you said you have done. I now use a hub with DSL service, each computer(3) gets it's own unique IP and speed is blazing on all 3. Do you mean that your client has no internet, other than the network with host, or that there are 'some' things that don't work such as e-mail?

Make sure that you have Generic Host Proc. Sys.32\SVCHOST listed for access in programs. If you deny it access, IE will not work. Do not allow anything to act as a server, and enable the privacy settings in programs to on.

Found this posted somewhere.

And also check your firewall settings.Zone Alarm or whatever you may use.

Thx Mary And Rob for the reply. My client does NOT have internet acces except through the host. It shares the DSL modem. I do have a 10 port 10/100 Tigerhub that I'm not using.Maybe I could try that. How do I enable the protocol for access in programs? Also I don't use zone.alarm , just a port scanner for "backdoor hackers". Thanks again.
