XP PRO hangs at welcome screen

After imaging XP with Rapid Deploy, I put the image back (wanted bigger partition). XP starts ok but hangs at the blue Welcome screen. I should see Logon icons the two users I created but it appears they are gone. I thus can't get in. Any help is greately appreciated.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308041 ---------------- Also to say that the "Clean Boot" article talks about doing things in Windows. This can be done in Windows Safe-Mode. Hold down or tap F8 during boot.

Thanks Chuck for your response. I did try all of the suggested options. Booted holding down F8 and tried all alternative start modes. No luck. Also booted with XP CD etc. I dont think it's hanging on a driver as I did not install anything after imaging. So, still at the bleu welcome screen I am...
