Hi
My computer has started freezing on start up. When it boots up, it shows all the BIOS info, then it shows the black Windows XP screen with the little progress bar zipping across a few times. Then it changes to a blue screen (dark blue across the top and bottom with lighter blue in the middle) with the Windows XP logo in the middle, and that's where it stays.
I'm able to move the mouse cursor around, but there's nothing to click. ctrl alt del does nothing, alt+tab does nothing.
I have tried the different boot options (F8) like safe mode, last known good etc and none of them work either.
I have booted from the XP disk and run chkdsk /r which said it fixed a couple of errors but I was still unable to boot (I have run the chkdsk a couple of time).I am wondering if anybody else has any ideas? I guess I could try a repair install, but I thought I ask if there was anything else I could try.
Thanks!
Homer

Read up on how to do a "repair" using the XP cd would by a suggestion. It is not exactly how you'd expect. You have to read bottom part so that you go past where you think you should.
Dumb microsoft anyway.http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...
The repair might leave your computer is need of service packs and be sure to apply firewall. Get the updates the very first thing you do.
If you have very important data then I might suggest other ways to start."Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
