Trying to transfer data from Win. 95 machine to new Dell XP Pro machine using file transfer wizard. Sounds easy but it just doesn't work using a modem serial cable or floppies; Win. 95 machine doesn't have a CD burner. Help?

Try using softeware such as customizer XP does everything from disabling features such as control panel disabling internet explorer or downloads thru IE and the properties and also diff ways to optimise perfomance. I have it and works really good you can download it free at http://www.grassheap.com/software.php?ID=1886
or buy it at www.tweaknow.com

Are you getting any error messages or anything like that? Or is it just hanging?

I don't know if this is problem or not (maybe someone else can chime in) but with you having the 95 box I'm sure its FAT 16 and your XP Pro MIGHT be NTFS (might want to check.) I don't know if that would cause a problem or not trying to convert files over. I know this wasn't much help but maybe something to look into.

What I do when I run into these types of service calls is remove the HDD from the old system and install it in the new Dell.

Transfer data that you want via copy and paste, then remove old HDD and away ya go.
