In 75% of the cases where i hit winbutton + e or run "explorer" from the start menu, explorer.exe crashes, the taskbar re-initalizes and all my desktop icons are rearranged, even though i have turned "auto arranged" off. But the most annoying thing is the 1 minute pause where the file explorer container isn't available. This is XP Pro release, fresh from PDC on the launch date, running on a dell inspiron 8100 portable. Any suggestions?

I have a simular problem. When in windows explorer if I try to copy, move or edit files I get a Fatal Error Dialog Box with the message "Unable to create an instance of required object: Server Admin." Then all I can do is click OK.

I have not had that problem with XP Pro but i do know that the reason why Joe is seeing his problem is because he must not be logged in as an administrator. If you are logged in as a user or even a power user you will get that message if you try to move files.

Using XP Pro. I am logged on as an Administrator and am constantly having explorer.exe crash. The workstation in question is on a small (workgroup only) LAN with one fiel server and another workstation. My machine is used primalrily for dig. imaging (very large file's, 10MB to 1.2 GB) so I realize that I am "putting it through its paces" but the system is a dual athlon with 1.5 GB DDR ram. Should be more than enough to handle the workload. Also, explorer.exe will crash at random, not neccessarily during a magor file save, move etc. It happended earlier today while saving a 10 MB file! I have checked every possibility that i can think of. Thanks in advance if anyone has any suggestions Franklin

If I click on my computer, or anything that opens Windows Explorer in XP Professional probably 50% of the time the screen flashes slightly and then an error message appears on the desktop. "Windows Explorer encountered a problem and had to close sorry for the inconvenience." Rarely I get a similiar message from Internet Explorer. I have reinstalled XP over itself, which fixed nothing and was a bad move as it reset my restore function. Which probably would have been a better idea. The install makes me think it must be a program causing interference. My money is on that painful Bonzi Buddy so I will try to totally exterminate him tonight. I'll see how that goes.
