Verify that the e: partition is good by booting to c: partition and see if e: is accessible from there. Select the e: drive and right click for properties and see if you can select tools and then check volume for errors. If not accessible, and the partition is physically on another hard drive, the drive could be dead.
If e: is accessible, place xp cd in cd drive and boot the cd. Select Recovery Console (you will need administrator password) and type buildcfg to have Xp find any windows installations.
