System Specs:
CPU:Amd Athlon Slot A 800mhz
RAM: 2x 129MB PC100 SDRAM
Video: Raedon 7500
Sound:Sound Blaster PCI 128
Hard Drive: Maxtor 40GB 7200rpm ATA 66For the past week I've been having problems getting XP to boot correctly. My system freezes when the XP Profession screen appears and after the status bar moves a few times the system freezes up.
I am able to get into save mode. The strange thing is, after being in Safe mode for a while(a few hours) if I reset my machine I am then able to boot XP in normal mode no problem( however this whole mess starts over again If i shut my PC Off for a extended period of time.
I have formated my hard drive and reinstalled XP all my drivers and SP1 4 times since sunday. I even did a low level format of my hard drive and it still wont boot correctly.
I'm starting to think there is some type of short somewhere on my motherboard so I'm considering replacing it and upgrading my CPU at the same time.Could the problem be my MB? or it is something else? This problem started Sunday and I never experienced anything like this before. I should mentioned that the PC was moved from 1 part of the house to another, I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it but that is when this problem started to manefest.
BTW I did read the other message below about a XP boot problem and I don't thing my issue is related.

Hi,
If I was to take an educated guess at your problem I would say that there is a problem with your MoB or Cpu.Because you only get this problem when you turn your computer on after it has been turned off for a period of time, I expect that there is some sort of fault / short on the MoB.
You may have a very small fracture on your MoB and when your computer is cold this fracture will lead to a bad circuit or connection. However, after you have been using your computer for a time and it has warmed-up, the components on your MoB expand slightly and therfore will bridge the bad connection thus allowing your computer to function normally. But of course when you turn your computer off and it cools down, the fracture will re-apear and so will the problem!

That's exactly what I'm thinking but since the putter would boot into Safe mode while it was cold I had doubts about that theory.

Have you checked that all your connections & expansion cards are securly connected? Because when you boot in safe mode your computer only loads the minimum required drivers.
For example, it wont load your soundcard drivers so IF your souncard was not seated correctly you wouldnt know this in safe mode because your computer doesnt know that it is installed.
So when your computer is cold and you try a NORMAL boot it hangs because your soundcard is not seated properly, but then when your computer warms up it may bridge the gap and hay presto - it all works!!
Please note: Im not saying that your soundcard is at fault, it may be any card/connection wiothin your computer.

That's one of the things I did after I set my compute back up after I rearanged my room. I pulled all the PCI cards, my AGP board and my ram chips and re installed them.
