Hello,

I cannot find the printer drivers for my printer. My printer is a Canon Bubble Jet BJC 5100. My OS is Windows XP Professional. I have gone to the canon site and microsoft. They were of little help. I have tried the Win 95/98/ME drivers along with the Win2000 drivers. Nothing works. Please help. Thanks :-))

NT drivers don't work either. I have the same problem. I emailed Canon tech support, only to be told that the 5100 is NOT and never will be supported under XP, nor will they ever release drivers for it.

YOu can imagine, this made me pretty... mad

Best thing you can do is to email Canon and let them know how you feel. If enough people complain, they will release drivers for XP

I contacted Canon & the customer service person said that Canon has decided not to support the 5000 & 5100 series under WinXP.
The jerks have arbitrarily disregarded thousands of users/buyers of their product. Well never again, I am never buying a Canon product again!
I hope the word gets spread and Canon re-thinks their position.

I'm using BJC-5100 printer under XP, just install the windows 2000 drivers, your XP will recognize that printer. Once installed just "unplugged the printer for 5 seconds" (WITH THE COMPUTER ON) plugg it again and "bualaaaa" you are printing again. YOU HAVE TO DO THIS EVERYTIME YOU RESTART YOU COMPUTER.. :)

I have heard that you can use a Canon windows xp driver for printing in black and white only with your bjc 5100. Does anyone know what driver that might be? it would be better then nothing.

thanks Bill.

Don`t despair with the drivers for the BJC5100 on XP.
I have just bought a computer with XP as the pre installed OS and my son has set me up with a driver for my BJC5100 printer using the NT drivers which works perfectly.

Man, This is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard of.... I have 7 Canon BJC-5100's in 4 locations and The Entire Reason For Me Searching Down These OUT DATED/and/VERY REASONABLY PRICED/ Printers is because I can buy the Black Ink Cartridges that Retail for between $12 and $19 ea for about $0.99-$1.50 ea and the Color Cartridges which retail for between $19 and $28 ea for about $1.75-$2.50 ea. Not to mention the High Capacity Black cartridge which Retails for between $40 and $50 ea for between $9 and $11 each... The Only Ones For this printer I cannot get cheap is the 4 Color Photo Cartridge but Maybee I just havent looked hard enough or because I just dont print with it enough to worry about it really...

This makes for Virtually Cost FREE Printing (with the low cost of the printer (at about $75 plus Shipping) and the almost FREE Ink) I am Dependant upon finding something that will work for this printer, As I now Have Stocked Up on almost 500 of each Black&Color Cartridges That Are doing me no good if I cant get my printer to print in XP... I would hate to have to go back to Win-98 but May Have To...

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ANYONE CAN WALK ME THROUGH HOW TO INSTALL THE WIN 2000 Driver So It Will Work As Some Have Stated It Will. I Have Tried To Install It Dozens Of Times Now And Cannot Get It To Work...

Thanks
Skippy

PS. If Someone Has the Email to Canon PLEASE Post it here so EVERYONE Can Email them and WE can Let them Know Exactly How we Feel about Their Obvious Disregard for Their Faithfull Customers that Have Lined their Pockets with Green and Been the Cause and Origin of their FAT Christmas Bonus' They will Mostlikely Be Getting This Year...

I too rely on the BJC-5100 for specific business presentations and am angered at the lack of drivers.

As one other writer found, I did get it to work well once--only to have it stop working after shut down.

Canon--fix it or lose a customer!

As someone already pointed out once already, they bought an *OUTDATED* printer. So now the 5100's a printer that's not current, and it's without legacy support from Windows/Microsoft themselves. This is the only reason that the older BJC's have XP drivers. Microsoft chose to allow them to be included with the OS. They didn't include the BJC-5100 with their set of mini-drivers.

Out of curiousity, how come no one's upset with Microsoft for making Windows 2000 junk less than a year after releasing it? Since they're the ones to blame, with the design of XP making it halfway impossible to create a driver to allow for the dual cartridge printing system the 5000 series uses. You should take note of that as well, since every other printer Canon makes doesn't use two seperate cartridges and is supported in XP. Maybe if everyone wasn't busy being hostile and "I think a class action lawsuit against Canon for my printer that was sold in 1998/1999 would make them give me what I want", and tried to remember that the people that answer your emails, and answer the phones, didn't make this business decision, it might actually get some momentum started towards getting something done.

By the way, for anyone that cites Canon Asia's drivers, they removed them from their website..

In reply to response 17 (by "Joe Schmuck"), I too am looking for an XP driver for the 5000/5100 Canon and have discovered that they being dual-cartridge is irrelevent to the creation of an appropriate driver. For example, Lexmark has made dual-cartridge printers (just as "old" and "outdated", as "Mr. Schmuck" says, as the Canon 5000/5100) and have been professional enough to supply XP drivers for them. Here are some links showing examples of this:

http://www2.lexmark.com/drivers.nsf/printer+driver/FA4F77ECB2BD8F6185256AA3004DB55C?OpenDocument

http://www2.lexmark.com/drivers.nsf/printer+driver/74C11635C24C0A7D85256AF000775279?OpenDocument

Also, Canon themselves make an XP driver for a dual-cartridge of their own, the BJC 2000:

http://209.85.7.18/techsupport.php?q=download&p=bjc2000

So, as we can see, dual-cartridge argument is flawed. At least Canon should consider developing it, isn't that reasonable? And Mr. "Schmuck", 1999 wasn't really that long ago.

Sorry! It looks like I should, and so will, rescind my earlier statement (reply #18) about the BJC 2000. I'm no longer sure if it is a "dual-cartridge system" like I thought. Apologies.

However, the two Lexmark models addressed still do have the "dual-cartridge system" and have XP drivers provided by them. So I'm still not sure what 'Joe Schmuck' (reply #17 means exactly). Perhaps he is a Canon employee and felt vitiated at everyone's comments, I don't know.

On a brighter note, the Web address to Canon's feedback page is:

http://www.usa.canon.com/contacts/feedback.html

Please feel free to use it to inform Canon of the disappointment with them pertaining to the lack of support for their BJC 5000/5100 printers. Perhaps knowing people's thoughts on this will motivate them to at least ATTEMPT to create an XP driver for their customers.

Well, I just installed xp and yeah I got a canon 5100 printer. Until they manage to create a driver for it, I'm using the windows 2000 driver as mention by miguel in no.8...It works fine, but like he said everytime you reboot (with the cpu on!)you have to unplug the printer from the wall...5 sec...plug it back, the system recognize a new hardware eachtime, click cancel (already have the win 2000 driver) and your printer will work fine...

better than nothing...

Download file 5x0022w5.exe from the canon-asia site, these will make your BJC-5100 work properly under windows XP. Be sure to get the drivers from the asian site however, they seem to be the only ones that work normally. Here is the link:

http://www.canon-asia.com/navigate/w220.htm

or to get just the file:

http://www.canon-asia.com/navigate/driver/5x0022w5.exe

Hope this helps you all.

I got my BJC-5100 to work rather fine on a Windows XP Home Edition that came pre-installed on a new machine. My only complaint is that I can't seem to change any of the printer settings. I usually print in Black & White so as not to waste my color.

I installed the Windows 2000 drivers, seeing that the technology was similar enough. I do get a warning about installings these drivers, but I don't have to do any of the resetting the other posters mentioned.

In fact, the machine immediately recognized the printer, but did not have any drivers for it, which left me scratching my head.

In any case, the Win2000 drivers seem to be the best solution now. I am also having problems with another Canon product under XP. A film scanner (FS 2710). But According to canon, they ARE developing drivers for this.

afther read the above comments i only need to say....

the same problem we have with the canon driver occurs with miro and the dc10+ card, HP 670C, and with many other cards and devices so...

who is interested in make a new O.S. ..micro$oft ??? we are all as sheeps and go to take the new O.S. and then we need to change our printer and video card and many more..... all for the benefit$ of big companies
can all of us together make a big group who tell the others what happend in this money PC world????

i have a web server without Mb restrictions and any one who is interested into write a line on a forum against this $ practice are wellcome... perhaps when in google and some others when we look for information about a company, appears as the first page the one that we can make, the companies (canon the first) will work for the users instead of us working to buy new hardware

Ok folks. I hope you've all been sending feedback to Canon. I just did and this is what I wrote (every little bit helps):

"I am very disappointed in learning that Canon has stated that they will not be supporting the 5000 & 5100 series of printers for Windows XP. You are abandoning a very large number of customers who will be purchasing many new printers in the years ahead and you can be pretty sure that they will not be buying Canon. I am a Network Administrator for a very big firm in LA and make all of the printer purchasing decisions. You can now be doubly sure that I will never give Canon consideration. All of this could have been avoided. If Canon wrote a small driver, the payoff in customer loyalty could be huge. Thanks for nothing.
Sanford"

I am a Home PC owner running a small business. I have always bought canon products either it is a camera or printer. Now I am stuck with a printer which forces me to use old operating systems. A satisfied customer is a good marketing agent. Canon should remember this. From now on I consider it my duty to disuade people buying Canon products. I hope many will join me.

I have my canon working with XP, its not rely stable but it works at the moment. I just tried several thing as mentioned and just one of them worked for me, maybe its the fact that I only have 1 cartridge installed or ..
But about saving the printersettings, I have found that the D300UI.dll can not save the setting in the registry, so what I did is use a windows 2000 system to generate some differend setting and then in the windows xp just merge the setting that I whant. That works for me, I can now print in High res. or black and white etc.
For example this is the black draft settings, you can try it by just copy and past it to a .reg file and merge it in your registry:

I too have a Canon BJC 5100 and love it to bits, especially it's ability to print A3. I used to have a 620 but it died. It is interesting to note that there are XP drivers for the 620 which as far as I know is more obsolete than the 5100. :( Not fair.

As most of you know, Canon has refused to provide a Win XP driver for the BJC5000/5100 printers.

I tried using the Win 2K driver. Worked ok at first, then my XP machine started crashing and I tracked the problem down to the WIn 2k driver and had to remove it.

See this site for an online petition to Canon asking them to reconsider their position and to provide an XP driver:
