XP parallell install. dll:s missing

I installed WinXP parallell to Win98SE. Now, I could not install some SW and few old DOS games did not start either (on XP).
XP gives an error message that some dll are missing (don't remember the names). I located the dll:s correctly at d:\windows\system32 dir (installation path). Then I even copied all the dll to the program dir, but the program gave the same error again. How is it possible that XP cannot locate the dll even if it is in the program dir?
