I upgraded from 2000 Pro to XP. Now whenever I log in I get an error message telling me that my page file is too small and needs to be made bigger. I go into the settings for it and it shows 0 MB. I set a custom size of 1 1/2 times my RAM, click on Set, Ok, Ok, Ok, then yes to restart. But, when it restarts, I get the same message. No pagefile.sys is created in my root drive. I even partitioned a new drive to put it there and the same problem happens. I have searched Technet and couldn't find anything on this. Any ideas?? My next step will be to format the drive and install from scratch, but that is such a pain.

I have had that same problem when XP got corrupted. I played with it for a while but finally had to reformat. Whatever the problem is/was was cured buy that.

I upgraded to Windows XP Professional from Win98 three days ago. (My machine is
a Dell Pentium 3, 256 meg, it should have all the things needed for XP). For a
day or so everything worked fine. But yesterday when I booted up I got the message that there was no paging file
or the paging file too small. I've gone to the location in control panel
the message sent me to (system/advanced/performance/settings) and clicked to
change the settings to: initial size 382 and maximum size 786 (382 is the
recommended initial size). All goes fine, I reboot, and the numbers I've
entered are there, but Windows still thinks the page file has a size of 0 MB.
The changes I make do not take effect. I've tried a number of variations
(e.g., different sizes for the file), but the result is always the same, namely:1. When I shut down I get a frozen blue screen full of dire warnings and
admonitions to uninstall any recently added sort/hard ware (which I've done).2. As soon as I log in I get a message that there is no paging file or that
it's too small. The machine seems to work fine, once I'm on, but these two problems persist.
Is there any fix short of reformatting? Thanks,

I've got the same problem. It just started two days ago. I've been running XP Pro for several months. Let me know if anyone figures this out.

First remove the Intel Application Accelerator (maybe called the Intel Program Accelerator) program. It is conflicting somehow (anyone know why?) and once removed you are able to change paging file memory settings and they "stick". (elsewhere on this site are messages re:this fix...do a search here "paging file" "xp" - some other helpful posts, if ya dig for 'em)
now you can adminster the setting:
click 'control panel',
click 'performance and maintenance',
click 'system',
click 'advanced',
choose 'performance' and
click 'settings',
click 'advanced',
choose 'performance' and
click 'settings',
click 'advanced',
choose 'virtual memory' and
click 'change',
select 'custom size',
set size values in value fields to levels above recommended (maybe 777 min. and 1111 max.),
click 'set',
and after responding to reminder-prompts,
click 'apply' and allow the computer to restart when prompted, or restart here manually.ugh....
You can do the above control panel stuff forever and not affect the paging file allocation if you haven't un-installed the Intel Application Accelerator - get rid of it and move on.(What is interesting here is that this problem seems to have revealed itself in alot of systems only in the past 10 days, systems which had been fine beforehand. Anyone have an idea about this glitch's recent exposure? It is happening on both the XP Home and Pro editions.)

Has anyone managed to cure this problem
I have tryed to follow what "Geert" advise
ie go to hardware settings, forgive me but I dont understand what he is saying.
Can anyone explain in more simple terms
Thanks

PLease use this article to solve the issue.
What we need to do is increase the virtual memory size and the issue will be resolved

I'm having the same problem as above and have not had success with any of the recommended fixes.
- I have full administrative rights to make system changes
- I have repeatedly used the "system properties"> "advanced"> "performance"> "settings"> "advanced"> "virtual memory"> "change" tab to attempt changes to the paging file size for either or both hard drives, and have restarted as instructed, and I continue to get an error message saying that I have no paging file
- There is no Intel Application Accelerator or Intel Program Accelerator on my system (I believe this is removed upon XP installation)Has anyone else found a solution?
My PC:
Upgraded from Me to XP Professional
PII 450mhz
384mb RAMThanks for the help.
