I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro M15 S405 which has Toshiba's own XP installation disks. I have twice had problems with 'missing system32/drivers/ntfs.sys' error message. When I put in Toshiba's installation disk it asks for Windows XP disk! Can I wipe the hard drive completely and use an original (non Toshiba) installation disk. Will I need to get Toshiba drivers from somewhere?I am just a bit fed up with Toshiba's own set up disks as there seems to be some quirk that is throwing the system.
Any help would be gratefully received.Regards
Terry

Strange your restoration disk arent working but the answer to your question is yes. You can purchase a legal oem version of windows xp pro for I would guess now for about $125.00 and install it with no problems. As for drivers you can go to toshibas website and look up that model number and get the drivers you need for everything that came with the computer. Any other addons you need to go to the makers websites for their drivers. Sometimes the restore disk has extra software included like virus protection and various other programs which you will not get if you decide to go with a new version. I say a oem because that is cheaper than buying a full version and the only differance is no support from microsoft but you can still download the updates and all for it.
God made men and then rested, God made women and none of us has rested since..
