Has anyone tried for kicks to install XP on two different partitions of the same drive. I have tried and been unsuccessful. The installation seems fine until it tries to reboot and then locks up. I was doing this due to I have two computers with different hardware and try to set one up for use one way and a second. I can't seem to get the second one working even though the dual menu for each XP-1 AND XP-2 comes up. If I choose XP-2 for machine one and vice-versa the system crashes due to the way XP is made for hardware specific. Please help . . . I have checked MS website and the way they discuss dual booting I guess it was not made to run on the same system -especially the same HDD different partitions.
I know this works, ive done it personally all these OS's: NT4/Win2k/XP, I had XP on C:\ and installed another one on the same physical disk but on a logical partition F:\ (Same machine), keep in mind I only did this so I could test something on a fresh XP install, then wiped it once I figured out what was going on, I dont know how to help if your swapping the drive from different systems.

hello, can't seem to work out exactly what you mean, but I have installed windows xp in two different partitions on the same physical drive. Didn't seem to have any problems. I did this for my son, he can use the default for normal use and browsing and the other for his games, with just minimal devices loaded. Did this only few days ago, but boy, those teenagers really hammer them and its been okay so far. I don't mind helping you a bit further if you could be more precise........ Yours Alan
