I have upgraded a system from ME to XP Home with a clean install but have had some problems such as slow modem connection, nVidia, won't shutdown properly. I have all the latest drivers but it doesn't fix the problem.
I have bought another system with XP already pre-installed and it works just fine. I want to know if it is possible to use the OEM disk to reinstall XP on the problem computer as a clean install. Any ideas or help please.

Man its way better to do a clean install. First of all your registry instead of over-writing it it keeps it. the registry get loaded up even more and your more likley to have a system crash, and/or your comp slows down to a crawl. anyway thats just my opinion and its also what I always do. Clean Install when ever you can :)

now that you have a new machine try format/reinstall of XP on old
FORMATTINGWhile running your current version of XP , insert the XP CD in the drive. When the
setup menu appears, select "New Installation" (clean install) from the pull-down menu.
Also, select
"Advanced" and place checkmarks in the two boxes.2. Next, your computer will start copying files and then reboot. At this point, select
the same drive/partition that Windows XP is currently installed on. Select the
option to "format" this partition using either FAT32 or NTFS.3. After the drive/partition is formatted, XP will begin the setup process and install
"clean".4. After registering and activating XP, be sure to run a "Defrag".

Note: It is important to visit the web site of the manufacturer of your computer to
obtain any special XP drivers.
