I have an XP pro server, and 3 windows 2000 PCs on a LAN. I used to be able to access any program/file on any computer from any other computer. But now when ever I try to access a file/network drive on the XP server from one of the client PCs I get a pop up requiring a network password. Accessing a file on a 2000 machine from the XP doesn't require a pw. How do I get the XP from requiring network drive passwords?

You mean you've got a workgroup with 1 XP pro & 3 win2k machines. Sounds like you disabled simplified sharing on the XP machine (with simplified sharing XP acts more like win9x/ME - doesn't require user/password authentication). Its under folder options/view - last option. With it disabled, you would need accounts on the XP machine with same user id/passwords as you use to log onto 2k machines to enable access. Presumably you must already have this setup on the 2k machines (or have you enabled the guest account there?), because 2k has the same requirement in a workgroup network.

I ran into something similar this past week with the Administrator account in Win98 requiring the IPC$ password to access XP shares (XP post 43472).
My solution turn out to be realitively simple. Changed the Administrator password on the XP box, then changed it back (with reboots in between). Viola, no more IPC$ password required.
