My computer is not renewing my I.P. adress after my lease expires. My I.P. provider has replaced my external modem and eathernet card, but I'm still having a problem.I'm running win. x.p. The only way I can reconect is to reboot my p.c. Any help would be greatly apreciated

Are you using a Firewall?
If so uninstall it completly.... then try again - if not - is your system clock set at the correct time...?
are you using the XP built in Firewall?

I did uninstall my Mcaffe firewall. and now my ip adress is renewing fine. I did disable the firewall before but that didnt work. I had to compleatly uninstall it. Thanks for you help.

I had exactly the same problem.
(XP pro,Mcafee firewall,losing connection every 2 hours)
It is advisable to use a firewall,as well as anti-virus software, with an always on connection. The foolowing procedure worked for me:
Open Firewall and click on Run Firewall.
(You cannot see the Network Adapters if Firewall is not running)
Click on Pick a Task.
Configure Advanced Settings.
Configure Network Adapter Settings.
Select the Network Adapter device(s) on your system.
Click on your Network Adapter so that it is highlighted. (If there is more than 1 adapter, repeat these instructions for each adapter)
Click on View or change the properties of this adapter.
Click on the DHCP tab. Check the Box to Allow DHCP. Click Apply.
Click on the ARP tab. Check the Box to Allow ARP. Click Apply.
