Hi,
I have just installed a second 512meg chip in my laptop (Toshiba p20) the bios can see it but windoze doesn't
If I run a CD bootable linux disk like Gentoo Live cd, it can see the memory
anyone ever see this before.

I ran a memtest program and I got no errors. so I am a bit baffled...

any help appreciated

I have had this problem, but with a desktop pc. Sometimes limitations apply to make and model of certain pc's but since it detects with other O.S. Leads me to believe windows didnt detect it.

The solution I had that is if your not using windows 98, I use XP. I reinstalled overtop of the current installation, fixed all those buggy problems. If that doesnt work try reversing the chips, oh and make sure they are both same speed/mhz or Not mixing DDR or other types of boards. An old problem was Parity and non-parity. Let me know what type of ram you have would be helpfull..

Maybe someone else has a simpler fix but this method has worked for me in the past. PS>> You might want to start up safe mode and then restart into normal mode, windows sometimes redetects hardware that way.

Sincerely,
Joe Christian
