I recently had a problem where my CPU crashed everyday for the past week. Now I'm thinking to myself back up your files. So I go home to do this yesterday and once again the computer has crashed, but all files I had saved to my destop were gone. To make a long story even longer, I decided to format just for something to do, hoping it would help. The format went fine but when I went to boot from the XP disk and install windows again it would start, but would hang up part-way through. I tried doing this twice. Someone suggested that my hard drive is basically gone, but it is still running, i can hear it. If anyone has a suggestion for this one, please let me know.

It could be the hard drive. Try running scandisk on it to see if it found any bad sectors on your drive. Do you hear any strange noises from the hard drive?

Kevin.

No strange noises that I can hear, sounds fairly normal. I will see if I can run scandisk.

Thanks,

Alan

If you have more than one stick of RAM, one may be faulty, start removing some of them until your install is successful.

Well, i only have one stick of RAM, but i realized that on startup it says Primary Master: Not Detected.
Now I'm assuming that's going to be a part of the problem, don't any of you think so?
If so, how can I fix this? or can i?

thanks,

al
