xp no desktop icons

hi ppl im have an xp pc that has just the screen saver on it and nothing else. no i cant get rid of it and i cant acess the pc at all , also this has happened to a win98se pc as well , can anyone help me plz , feel free to email me at ..gregh77@hotmail.com

Okie,
When you say you can't access the PC, does that mean not even the START button? Or does it mean that the screen saver will not turn off with any mouse or keyboard use? Does it all work fine until the screen saver kicks in? Let us know what exactly is happening here...:o)

yes no start button , no mouse or keyboard commands except ctl alt del gets you into task manager , no viruses as i checked hdd in another system. screen saver comes up first when booted system up.no safe mode or last good config either .the same on the 98se system as well.
