Since my home PC was automatically updated to SP2 my XP PC no longer lets my second PC share files and printers. I've tried reset the XP firewall and is says I cannot start the firewall service. Some user accounts can no longer see my second PC via network connections.

It's hard to describe in words, and virtually impossible to submit a drawing of a network to the forum. But there are sites on the internet that specialize in resolving network configuration issues.

I don't think your problem is particularly serious. SP2 is a friend not an enemy.

Also, you know, computing.net has a networking forum.
