During installation it asks for user name and password. You must have put something in maybe by mistake if its asking for one? I left the password blank for mine because noone else using the computer so i log on without it.. more into on your installation or if you configured your xp in anyway

You are still on the install and it is asking you to set a password incase you ever need to get into the hidden administrator account. Make one up. If you just make one account(plus the main hidden administrator account) after it's installed and you restart windows it will not ask you for a password to log onto windows unless you manually go and put one on your account. This result in starting up Windows without having to click on your account or putting a password in.

My computer yesterday started asking for the password. I never entered one when installing the software. Remembered an old mac trick which does work. Hold down the SHIFT key, and press ENTER. Bingo, you're back in business without you needing a password providing you never entered one when installing XP.
