i bought a modem blaster to put in my new xp system, but, no matter what i do, i get the pci simple communications controller error when i try to install (an error occurred during install - the data is invalid).
i've tried installing from the CD that came with it, tried installing from the XP CD, I've installed the latest drivers from creative's website, i've tried switching pci slots, NOTHING WORKS!!! Help!
(i'm running a P4 1.6G with a soyo ultra dragon mobo and my other 2 pci cards work fine)

it sounds like the drivers are not compatible with xp. you really shouldnt need specialized drivers to work with xp. if the modem wont work, just click on it in the device manager, then update and try to select a best one from a list. that may help.

I have a LightFax (LightSpeed) 56K Modem but is only logging on at 33.6kbps. How can I force this Modem to log on at a higher speed?

I have the same modem, and had problems getting XP to recognise it as well. Did it come with software? Install that first, then try installing the the hardware and use the disk to find the driver... You've probably tried all this already, but who knows..
