Xp Modem Help needed!

I have recently installd Xp on my comp, But the problem is it doesn't pick up my modem so i got a friend to d/l the latest drivers i then installed these and my comp crashed saying error Xp has shut down ur compter to avoid damage, Check Vendor for BIOS updates. The modem i've got is a Intel HaM MD5628D any help how i could get this comp back online would b greatly appriciated ;-)

XP has a 'Standard Modem 56k' driver which is the one I use because I could not find a driver for my modem on the manufacturers site and it works like a charm.

Rick...I gave nepo the corrct drivers from intels site !!!! it says its an driver

I have a Rockwell 56K Data/Fax Modem...I just up-graded to XP last night and now my modem doesn't work so I can't get a connection to the Internet. I tried using the standard 56k modem but it wouldn't work either. DO i need a whole new modem or just a new driver?
